Grenada Treehouse Guest House

Treetops Villa Guest House, Grenada, West Indies, is perched high above Grenada’s scenic north coast in a secluded woodland setting. From its verandas, birders can watch Magnificent Frigate Birds and hawks soaring on the ocean breezes. Hummingbirds dart from flower to flower in the Garden Room. Treetops is a short walk away from numerous hiking trails through forested areas. It is a 25-minute drive from Levera National Park.

The guest suites have a private bathroom and kitchenette. Meals are not included, but ingredients for making your breakfast are supplied. This includes orange juice, eggs, butter, cheese, seasonal fresh fruit, coffee, tea, milk, and homemade bread.  This is good because you don’t have to eat breakfast at any specific time. You can sleep in and eat late if you wish or get up early and go birding and eat when you return.

Spectacular views from the balcony are free. You can relax there in the evening with a cool drink and watch for passing raptors.

Practical Information

Getting There

Treetops is at the island’s north end, and the airport is at the south end. It is suggested that you travel by taxi from the airport. This will cost about 150 East Caribbean dollars (about $56 U.S. dollars). The scenic drive up the west coast from the airport to Treetops takes about an hour and a half. Then, rent a car after spending a few days hiking and birding the area around Treetops and exploring the town of Sauteurs. This is safer and will save you money. Contact Treetops for information about which taxi to take. (Book your car rental in advance to make sure you get one. Again, Treetops will give you contact information). As Grenada is a former British colony, driving is on the left, so make sure you are comfortable with that.

Although Treetops is far from the capital city, St George’s, this is a good thing as you are away from the crowds and traffic in a lovely and peaceful tropical forest.

Good restaurants are available in the Sauteurs area. The restaurant and bar at the Petite Anse Hotel is less than five minutes by car or a 15-minute walk through the woods from Treetops. For a fine dining experience, the Armadillo Guesthouse and Restaurant is also a short distance away. Helena’s Ocean View for lunch and a place called Going North for casual dining and takeout. For those on a budget, there are some other reasonably good places for casual dining and takeout. There are also two well-stocked grocery stores in Sauteurs and two banks with ATMs.

Suggested Itinerary

Most of your first day will be used up getting to Treetops (depending on when your flight arrives). Spend the afternoon getting settled and resting (and enjoying the view) before a walk into town for dinner.

Spend the next couple of days exploring and birding around Treetops.

Then rent a car and spend a couple of days birding at Levera NP

Then, drive to the centre of the island for a day of birding at Grand Etang NP

Finally, go by taxi to new accommodations south of the island and hire a guide to take you to Mt Hartman NP to search for the rare and endemic Grenada Dove. (see the guide page)

Spend your last few days exploring the south of the island and the capital city (St George’s) before heading to the airport.

  1. This itinerary sounds good but I an afraid to drive on the left. I will be dependent on guides and taxis. I am a new birder so I definitely will need a local guide.
I also want to come for Chocolate fest in 2023. Is that too late for the migrations?
    Let me know.
    Thank you,

    1. Hello Bonnie,
There are recommended guides on my website.
      See the guides page.
Suggest you travel by taxi from the airport.
Then rent a car after you get settled in a day or two later.
Then you don’t need to drive the whole length of the island.
Driving on the left might seem scary if you have never done it.
But you get used to it.
You just have to concentrate a bit more and
think about it every time you come to a corner.
But it is not that difficult.
Most of Grenada’s birds are there year-round.
But some are not there in May.
Go to ebird.com, click on explore regions, type Grenada, then click on bar charts on the left.
This will show you which birds are there in May.
If you go, please write a review for the hotel and guides on birdtripper when you return.
