Tikal (BT)

Tikal is the number one tourist attraction in Guatemala and one of the best birding locations.
I recommend a three-day stay at Tikal, with one day dedicated to seeing the impressive pyramids and two days for birding. I also recommend staying in the park. That way, you don’t waste time and money driving back and forth, and you can be out looking for birds before the park opens.
There are several hotels within the park. I recommend the Tikal Inn. The rooms are basic, but the hotel features a restaurant serving excellent meals and a lovely swimming pool, which you will appreciate after a hot day in the jungle. Ocellated Turkeys can be seen around the hotel.
Hotels in Tikal do not have 24-hour electricity, as they rely on generators. However, it is on in the mornings and evenings when you need it most. The Tikal Inn also has Wi-Fi when the power is on.
A bus going to Tikal from San Ignacio, Belize, stops right in front of the hotel. (Everything is subject to change, so you should ask at your hotel or visitor centre in San Ignacio to confirm this.)
To be fair, I have not stayed at the other hotels within the park, so I am not familiar with their quality. Perhaps someone can give me some information about them. I do know that staying inside the park is the very best option for birding.
