The Stunnlng Steller’s Sea-Eagle

Steller Sea-Eagle

The stunning Steller’s Sea-Eagle is one of the top birds I have always wanted to see.

The Steller’s is the largest eagle by weight, weighing five to ten kg (11 to 20 pounds). The difference is because females are much larger than males. However, the Harpy Eagle and the Philippine Eagle are larger in dimensions.

Description

The Steller’s Sea-Eagle is mostly dark brown with white shoulders (the upper edges of the wings when in flight), white tail, rump and legs, and a massive orange beak.

They are classified as vulnerable to extinction.

Where to see the Steller’s Sea-Eagle

Steller’s Sea Eagles are found mainly on the northwest coast of the Pacific Ocean, from the east coast of Russia to Japan and South Korea. The best place to see them is probably Hokkaido Island in Japan.

Their Diet

Their diet consists of 80% fish, but they also eat other birds, especially ducks, gulls, geese, and even very large birds such as cranes and herons, as well as several other species.
