Ghana offers both West African Rainforest and Savanna birding. The main birds to look for are Egyptian Plover, Owls, Raptors, Sunbirds, Greenbuls and especially the White-necked Rockfowl.
Kakum National Park
Kakum National Park is home to Africa’s Rainforest Canopy Walkway, which contains a variety of Upper Guinea endemic species of birds. In addition, the fantastic Bobiri and Atewa forests will fill your list with Greenbuls, Flycatchers, Warblers and many more. Kalakpa forest, where the rare Capuchin Babbler and stunning Red-cheeked Wattle-eye are found. And, of course, the primary target of our tour, the White-Necked Rockfowl. Watching these magnificent birds coming into their roost will be one of the highlights of your trip to Ghana.
Mole National Park
Further North, Mole National Park lies in a belt of broad-leaved Guinea woodlands where birders seek the beautiful Oriole Warbler, the stunning Violet Turaco and numerous Kingfishers, Bee-eaters, Rollers, Sunbirds and Starlings.
Northern Ghana
In the far north of the country are some extraordinary species, including the splendid Egyptian Plover and the Standard-winged Nightjar, one of the world’s most sought-after birds.
